Trucking Careers of America works with a network of independent CDL trucking driving schools - and - a network of trucking companies. It's important to understand the differences between the two types of training and how it affects you.

If you are looking for...

  • a trucking company that offers CDL company paid training
or -
  • an accredited, reputable independent CDL training school that offers financing

We can help ...

Option (1)
Attend a Certified CDL Truck Driving School
Often The Preferred Option

TCA works closely with a number of independent CDL training schools that are accredited, reputable, and highly regarded - and offer financing. We send student applicants to these schools confident that you will receive excellent training and be well prepared for your career in the trucking industry.

Classes are smaller which means that each student is able to receive more individual attention. Upon graduation, students are often referred to us by these schools for job placement. Because Trucking Careers and the schools work closely together, the schools have an excellent ratio of graduates and TCA has an excellent ratio of job placements.

Other independent CDL driving schools can range from $4,000 up to $8,000 - and sometimes even more. Most independent CDL truck driving schools do not offer financing. Your decision of which cdl training school to attend is an important decision, not only because of inflated cost, but also because many schools are not certified, the training is unsatisfactory, and there are no job placement services.

The average cost with the schools in our network is between $5,000 and $6,000. They do offer financing, the training is excellent and through their association with TCA, job placement services are available.

  • After (3) weeks of training and subsequent graduation, you are eligible for hire.

  • There is no contract requirement with a hiring trucking company since you have graduated from a certified independent school.

  • You are not restricted as to which trucking company you will go to work for.
  • The hiring trucking company will pay up to $150 per month towards the cost of training through a tuiton reimbursement agreement.

Option (2)
Attend a CDL Company Paid Training Program

"New Plan for the Old Man"

Read BigRigRick's blog about how he came full circle and back to his 40 year old plan to become an OTR driver. Read about everything that led up to the day when he got on the bus and left for training, and how he chronicles each day's training activities since then.

"I looked into getting the CDL through ATI ... they're local, & the course was 8 4-day weeks long, but the $6,300 was insane ... after talking with Jim McCormack at TCA in Atlanta I decided to go with CRST, who are offering the schooling and training for an 8-month contract."

TCA works with companies that offer a paid CDL training program - or - a company sponsored CDL training program, which means that you are hired by a trucking company and trained by that trucking company. Upon completion of your training, you go on the payroll. However, it's important to be aware of what a trucking company requires when they are paying for your training:

  • Typically, you are required to sign an employment contract for at least one year with the company that has provided the CDL training.

  • You are responsibile to pay back the training and related expenses, which can be accelerated particularly if you do not fulfill your employment contract for whatever reason.

  • In addition, company sponsored type programs have a high number of students in ratio to the instructors. Generally, a large percentage of students per class will not complete training.
